Gillingham boss Martin Allen has confirmed that more new arrivals are on the horizon at Priestfield.

Allen’s summer wishlist is in the hands of chairman Paul Scally, who has been working hard since the end of last season to negotiate deals with new recruits.

Midfielder Amine Linganzi was the first signing of the summer and Allen hopes to be unveiling some more new faces soon.

Allen said: “We are close on several players. Mr Scally is doing the negotiations with the agents and over the next couple of weeks we should hopefully see some players come in.

“It has to suit the budget and the finances and what Mr Scally works out that we can afford. We work to the budgets he presents to me.”

Like last season, Allen may need to hunt out some free transfer signings, as he did with the likes of Adam Barrett and Myles Weston.

Allen said: “It is well documented that I am always out watching games and know the players, I have highlighted the players to Mr Scally – the ones I would like to bring in.

“I know the ones who I think can improve our team. I would never comment on who those players are and if we can get the deals done, then that would be great.

“If we don’t, there won’t be any sulking because we all know that whoever does pull on the shirt will do us proud.”

Allen is also looking at the loan market, as he did with success last season.

He added: “Loans are an option. Yeovil got promoted last season with five loan players and some people have the school of thought that loan players don’t work but that depends who the loan players are.”
