Addicks swoop for French starlet

CHARLTON manager Alan Pardew has completed his fourth summer signing by snapping up France Under-21 captain Yassin Moutaouakil for £400,000 from French Second Division club Chateauroux.

The highly-rated 20-year-old right-back has agreed a four-year deal and could be thrust immediately into first team contention as Luke Young is expected to leave The Valley following the club's relegation from the Premiership.

"I'm highly delighted to have signed Yassin and we have high hopes for him," said Pardew. "Aston Villa, Everton, Celtic and Lazio had expressed an interest so we're pleased he's chosen Charlton.

"He's a player we've been aware of for seven months so I know he'll be a great addition to our squad. He's hungry, and wants to succeed, so he has the qualities I'm looking for."

Nice-born Yassin was part of the French Under-19 team that beat England to lift the European Under-19 Championship in 2005 and more recently skippered France's Under-21s at the Toulon Youth Festival.

He follows Pardew's other signings, Luke Varney, Chris Iwelumo and Patrick McCarthy into the club.
