DARREN AMBROSE: finished off a splendid move

Swindon 0 Charlton 2

DARREN AMBROSE started to fulfil his pre-season promise to score more goals by setting Charlton on the road to a place in the second round of the Carling Cup at rain-lashed Swindon on Tuesday night.

The midfielder opened his account in the 52nd minute with a strong finish to round off a splendid move involving skipper Andy Reid, the recalled Chris Powell and Marcus Bent.

The goal took the wind from the sails of Swindon who fell further behind in the 63rd minute when Reid scored from a retaken penalty.

Charlton, who started tentatively against the 1969 League Cup winners, produced a much improved second half performance once they got their noses in front and should have increased their winning margin.

Charlton: Weaver; Moutaouakil, Bougherra, Fortune, Powell; Sam, Ambrose, Semedo,Reid; Bent, McLeod. Substitutes: Randolph, McCarthy, Sinclair, Iwleumo, Dickson.
