Watford v Charlton Athletic

MANAGER Alan Pardew’s intention of naming an unchanged side for Charlton’s second relegation duel in eight days at Watford on Saturday has been hit by injuries to Ben Thatcher and Marcus Bent.

Both sustained knocks in the 4-0 home win over West Ham. Though striker Bent was forced off with a hamstring strain after 34 minutes, left-back Thatcher completed the 90 minutes despite suffering an ankle injury.

With Hermann Hreidarsson and newcomer Majdid Bougherra ruled out by injuries, Pardew recalled Jonathan Fortune from his loan at Stoke and he looks certain to start in central defence alongside Talal El Karkouri as Souleymane Diawara is suspended.

Luke Young looks likely to switch from right to left-back to compensate for Thatcher’s absence with Osei Sankofa winning a recall in defence.
