CURBISHLEY: "Our supporters are used to a team that works the opposition"

MANAGER Alan Curbishley sided with the Charlton supporters who gave his players the brush-off amid extraordinary scenes at the end of Saturday’s 3-0 humiliation at Wigan.

As they went to acknowledge the away support, the fans turned on the team, erupting with a furious rebuke that visibly stunned many of the players.

The setback was Charlton’s seventh defeat in eight games and exasperated supporters found it impossible to contain their frustrations.

Curbishley, who was back in the dressing room awaiting his players’ arrival, missed the incident but confessed to having every sympathy. He had earlier come under fire from supporters unhappy with his substituting of Darren Ambrose in favour of Jonathan Spector.

He said: "I’ll accept any criticism that comes my way because I pick the team. But hold on, some of those players out there have to take responsibility and they didn’t.

"Our supporters have been very loyal over the years but they are used to a team that works the opposition. That’s certainly not the case at the moment and the fans have sensed that. We’re too easy a side to knock over."
