KENT race fans got their first glimpse of DTM Touring Car action at Brands Hatch on Sunday – and were treated to 85 laps of close-fought action.

Swedish racer Mattias Ekstrom took the chequered flag after passing British hope Jamie Green just 15 laps from the end.

Germany’s Bernd Schneider completed the top three, 13 seconds behind the winner.

More than 20,000 fans flocked to watch the fourth round of the German touring car event, which featured ex-Formula 1 drivers Mika Hakkinen, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jean Alesi.

But it was Ekstrom who reached the chequered flag first for his first win of the season after Green, driving for Salzgitter Mercedes, made an error just five laps after taking the lead from Denmark’s Tom Kristensen.
