Congratulations! You have the third best quality of life in England!

That is the verdict from a study published by Country Life magazine.

The standard of Kent's health services, green policy, schools, heritage, landscape, wildlife and pubs are all part of what put’s Kent third in the country.

Only leafy Devon (1st) and posh Hampshire (2nd) beat us for the finer things in life, according to the magazine.

Kent’s high number of village greens, the quality of light and tranquillity and the number of residents in Who’s Who also helped it up the league table.

Bottom of the standings is East Yorkshire in 40th, after being 7th in 2003.

Sources such as the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), the Met Office, Defra, Natural England and local authorities were used to compile the survey.

Director of the Kent branch of CPRE, Hilary Newport, said: “The most important thing about Kent is the amazing landscapes and countryside.

“Kent is really pressured with all the impact of the traffic racing through on the motorways going to and from the continent, but it still retains some amazingly beautiful and breathtaking landscapes.

“It’s important we work very hard to protect what we have still got.”
