Young mum's bid for X Factor fame

An opera-singing young mum could be close to stardom after wowing judges on the TV talent show X Factor.

Katie Bailey, from Carlton Close, Gillingham, is soon to appear on the hit programme.

But despite a cracking performance of Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro, the 19-year-old has been sworn to secrecy as to how far she has progressed on the show.

She could have gone as far as the Bootcamp stage where performers are put through their paces and receive regular coaching, but X Factor fans will have to wait until her audition is aired to find out.

Eagle-eyed viewers may recognise Katie from a previous attempt at X Factor fame.

In 2005, she reached the third round of the show, but was rejected because judge Sharon Osbourne thought she may be too small and young to cope with the pressure.

Katie was thrilled by the chance to perform again.

She said: “It was amazing. Ever since I was young I have wanted to sing. When I was 12 or 13, people started to recognise my voice and I have wanted to perform ever since.”

Even a second performance in front of tough judge Simon Cowell didn’t faze the young mum.

She said: “He was really nice and loved what I sang. He wasn’t nasty at all.”

Katie’s biggest fan is her two-year-old daughter Olivia.

Katie said: “She absolutely loves it, if I sing or she sees me on the TV she shouts and screams.”
