THE body of a man in his 20s was found in a top floor flat in Trinity Square at Margate last night after fire engulfed the building.

Fire crews from Margate, Ramsgate and the Thanet station at Westwood were called to the blaze shortly after 9pm. Firefighters used breathing apparatus to reach the man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An elderly woman from another flat in the building was taken to Margate’s Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother hospital suffering from a suspected asthma attack.

A police spokesman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious at this stage but further enquiries were being carried out today.
