Young father dies in motorcycle crash

A MOTORCYCLIST from Whitstable was killed in an accident near The Sportsman public house in Faversham Road, Seasalter.

The 26-year-old crashed into railings and a parked car after losing control of his machine at 2pm on Tuesday.

The young father, who lived with his partner in Whitstable, was taken to Kent and Canterbury Hospital after he was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision from multiple injuries. He has not yet been formally named.

The man, from a family of builders based in Herne Bay, worked as a part-time assistant at Tesco Extra, Whitstable, as well as a part-time postman.

Tesco staff have paid tribute to a popular family man. Mark Oliver, acting store manager, said: "He was just a massive personality. I worked with him for more than five years and I got to know him well. He will be sadly missed by a lot of people here. He was a very popular guy."

The family has laid flowers at the scene of the crash. A special assembly was held on Wednesday at St Alphege primary school in Whitstable which the dead man's daughter attends.

Kent Police are carrying out a crash investigation and are appealing for witnesses. A spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.
