You agree with Tracey's 'derelict Margate' comments

You got it right Tracey! Most of you agree with controverisal artist Tracey Emin when she said Margate has nothing for her now and criticised the town as derelict.

Responding to our Speak Out, Francis Empson, of Margate, said the local council was only interested in Westwood Cross.

"We need something for the visitors to go to without the need to drive out of the town.

"The Dreamland site does not need a lot of empty luxury flats as planned but a leisure park and something like an ice rink and/or snowdrome."

Tracey was spot on, according to Steve DIY, also from Margate.

"There's much work needed to bring the visitors to Margate."

John Humphrey says it is "criminal" to have allowed Margate to get run down and adds: "Something has gone badly wrong."

But there was a mixed view from Henry Kesper, a regular visitor from Wuppertal in Germany.

"There are indeed parts of Margate that look very shabby but there are also bright sides," he says.

"And the Turner Contemporary will definitely be an improvement."

What is needed, he adds, is active people with ideas.
