Toyota has revised the special Trend specification fitted to the Yaris for the 2013 model to raise its appeal to younger customers.

Trend was available last year and is a high-spec model with a reduced number of options to enable production costs - and purchase prices - to be kept lower.

Only the 1.33-litre petrol engine will be available this time, with a choice of six-speed manual or Multidrive S automated manual gearbox.

This year the three-door option has been dropped but colour choices for the five-door have been widened to include red and grey as well as the white and silver of last year's Trend.

As the name implies the Trend is designed to be the most stylish model in the range. For 2013 it keeps the black B- and C-pillars that give a `floating roof' effect. The 16-inch alloy wheel styles have been updated, though, with a two-tone look.

The inside has been more comprehensively changed, with a new centre console shape and a widespread black and white finish. The gear lever is shorter with a larger head to give a sportier feel. The seats are partly finished in pearl white false leather while the central fabric inserts are apparently softer.

Grey details take the form of piping on the upholstery and the seat belts, which were previously black.

Prices will start from £14,570 for the manual model, rising by £1,000 for the automatic option.

At the same time Toyota has announced new appearance packs for the TR and SR Yaris grades. The TR can gain 15-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and a black decal on the C-pillar.

SR gains 16-inch alloy wheels and the black decal. Privacy glass is already standard at that grade. Both appearance packs cost £250 and are available on cars ordered from now.
