A candle left burning at a flat in Margate last night caused a fire which led to a woman in her 60s being rescued by firefighters.

Crews were called to the blaze at the fourth floor flat at Turner Heights in Zion Place at 10.30pm.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.

Another fire at a first floor flat in Gillingham in the early hours of this morning is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Two fire engines were called to Rock Avenue at 1.10am.

No one was injured in the blaze which was discovered after the resident investigated a burning smell.
