Police have named the woman who was killed in a crash in Tonbridge last week.

Irene Walter, 90, from Southborough was knocked over outside the railway station on Thursday morning.

Her family have paid tribute, calling her a kind and generous person.

A statement said: "She spent most of her life in the Tunbridge Wells area, although she was born in London and was evacuated to Kent aged 19, in 1939.

"She married the Revd Kenneth Walter, who was born in Tunbridge Wells, and together they worked in the Anglican Ministry, at what was then Holy Trinity Church Tunbridge Wells.

"Later, they spent 12 years in Great Holland, near Frinton-on-Sea, Essex. Mrs Walter was widowed nearly 30 years ago and returned to Southborough where she has been well known for her care and concern for others.

"She was a very active member of St John's Church Tunbridge Wells, and loved to drive the "old" ladies to church.

"Mrs Walter was adventurous all her life; as an octogenarian she did not hesitate to globe trot and several times visited the USA and Indonesia to visit her internationally-based daughters.

"A kind and generous person, she was tireless in her care and compassion for others and will be very much missed by her many friends."

She leaves two daughters, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
