Woman in river rescue drama

A RESCUE operation was mounted on the River Medway at Rochester today after a woman was heard shouting for help.

A passer-by heard her calls and he saw the woman hanging on to a chain on the pier. One man jumped into the water to get the woman out while two other men called for help and assisted from the pier.

Police responded to the call near the jetty behind Rochester High Street

The woman was reported to be conscious but very cold and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

A Fire and Rescue boat was despatched from Sheerness but the boat was called back before it got to the scene.
