Woman fights for life after road smash

A woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after the car she was travelling in was involved in a crash with a lorry.

It happened just after 12.40pm Friday on the A249 under the M2 motorway at the Stockbury roundabout on the Maidstone-bound carriageway near Sittingbourne.

The woman was cut out of the wreckage of the car by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.

The incident is causing traffic chaos in the area. Police said shortly after 2pm motorists should expect delays for the next two to three hours.

The crash happened just yards from where a lorry toppled over on Wednesday causing virtual traffic gridlock for hours.
