Helicopter searches river at Gravesend

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time after a helicopter search of the River Thames at Gravesend.

The woman was arrested on Tuesday lunchtime. Earlier in the day the Kent and Essex police helicopter was seen hovering above the river for half an hour after fears a woman may have thrown herself in.

The helicopter was launched after police received a call from a woman. Officers on foot also searched the river bank, between Northfleet and Gravesend, and the coastguard also joined the hunt.
