Wincheap plans on hold

A decision on the Wincheap re-development has been deferred by Canterbury City Council while it investigates other potential locations for a fourth park and ride site.

The council was due to approve the brief last month, but has now put it off following legal advice that there was no scope to locate a park and ride facility within the Wincheap estate boundaries.

It has also run into stiff opposition for its favoured location for the new car park at Harbledown where local people have mounted a legal challenge.

Now the authority is to examine other sites along the A2 corridor between Brenley Corner and the A2 Harbledown junction.

The investigations and consultations are expected to take the rest of the year.
