Music fans were left shocked last night after a man died at Will Young’s Rochester Castle Concert.

The 40-year-old, a member of the back-stage crew, is thought to have either collapsed or fallen and hit his head.

Police swooped on the medieval venue and set up a cordon as the man was rushed to hospital just after 6pm.

A police investigation was immediately launched, pushing the gig's start time back by an hour-and-a-half.

Dozens of officers gathered backstage, with police tape thrown around the back of the stage.

One concert-goer said: "We saw the ambulance, and an ambulance car, but didn't realise how serious it was.

"Then a man came on stage, calling for anyone who may have seen the accident from the audience to come forward.

"It's terrible to hear the sad news about the man."

The man later died at hospital. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A police statement said the man's family have been informed and a post mortem will take place next week.
