Loick Pires has revealed the secret behind his wonder goal against Salisbury on Tuesday night – hard work in training.

Pires (pictured) came to the rescue as Welling twice let a lead slip against 10-man Salisbury, firing home a stunning 20-yard left-foot drive as the Wings worked the ball straight from the kick-off having conceded an equaliser with just two minutes left.

It was another unstoppable finish from Pires, just weeks after his thunderbolt saw off Dorchester at Park View Road.

"It’s all a bit of a blur," admitted Pires after the 4-3 win. "I like that one better as it was first time, against Dorchester I took a touch before hitting it.

"It went across goal and that was the result of a lot of training and work with the coaching staff that I’ve been doing. In training I have not been hitting the ball across goal enough. So I wanted to get it across goal, I hoped for the best and it came out alright.

"I was really upset that we had conceded the third goal. We were in control and had conceded two bad goals. It was enjoyable but it was up and down. I was buzzing that I had scored but I was then thinking that we couldn’t concede again."
