Lee Clarke missed a second-half penalty as Welling fluffed their lines on the final day of the Blue Square South season.

The Wings had been hoping to finish a season that started off as a relegation battle and could have been a play-off lottery at one stage on a high.

Instead, they only had Loui Fazackerley's second-half header to show for their efforts against Basingstoke.

Welling boss Jamie Day left himself out of the squad, giving his players the final chance to impress before he makes a decision on who stays and who goes next week.

Jake Hobbs had Welling's best attempts in the first half, the clearest of which arrived three minutes before the break but he blazed wide after good work by Joe Healy.

Welling's player-of-the-year Charlie Mitten was beaten 10 minutes into the second half when David Pratt picked himslf up to score from the penalty spot after he was felled by Carl Jenkinson.

Graeme Andrews was denied an equaliser just after the hour mark when keeper Ross Kitteridge produced a stunning one-handed save to turn his header over.

But Kitteridge was beaten two minutes later when Fazackerley headed in Sam Hurrell's cross.

Welling should have gone ahead on 67 minutes after Hobbs' shot was handled but Clarke (pictured) produced a weak spot-kick which was comfortably saved by Kitteridge.

Bromley swept to a 6-3 victory at Thurrock in Blue Square South.

Wes Daly put them ahead after 15 minutes, before Ashley Carew’s penalty 10 minutes later doubled the lead. Leon McKenzie pulled a goal back for Thurrock before the break.

Steve Ferguson scored for Bromley but Thurrock responded through David Bryant’s goal and a McKenzie penalty.

Three late goals from Harrison Dunk and Richard Butler, with a brace, gave Bromley victory.

Cray completed their season with a 1-1 draw at home to Horsham to finish mid-table in the Ryman League Premier Division.
