Nicky Forster claimed a point in his first league game in charge of Dover Athletic to prevent rivals Welling United taking top spot in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.

Whites recorded their fifth goalless league draw of the season - in just 12 games - while Welling have now won just once in their last six matches.

The visitors survived a first-half battering - which included a hotly-disputed disallowed goal - before a more even second half when Billy Bricknell's header was ruled out for offside.

Welling thought they had taken a 13th-minute lead but Jack Parkinson's (pictured) close-range finish from Loui Fazakerley's corner was harshly ruled out for a foul on keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz.

Bricknell then fired wide after beating the offside trap at the other end before Welling got into their stride.

Luis Cumbers went through but saw his shot blocked by the keeper and then he fired the ball across the face of goal but Andy Pugh just failed to poke it in.

Loick Pires was next to threaten as his left-foot curler just evaded the head of Lee Clarke and went wide of the far post, then Fazakerley went past three players but fired straight at the keeper from 20 yards.

After the break, Dover enjoyed their best spell as George Purcell fired straight at keeper Dan Thomas and then Purcell's low cross was headed in by Bricknell - only for the offside flag to cut short any celebrations.

Welling introduced Charlton youngster Ben Davisson late on and he showed some neat touches. Pugh had a penalty claim waved away after he was clattered into by Tom Wynter while Lee Clarke's 20-yard drive went inches wide of the upright.

Having soaked up everything Welling had to offer Dover nearly snatched the points late on but Thomas was out smartly to deny Bricknell after substitute Donovan Simmonds capitalised on a Jack Obersteller error.
