Two goals in six minutes at the end of the first half gave Bromley a Boxing Day win at Blue Square South rivals Welling.

Ryan Dolby and Warren McBean made sure the Wings paid the price for failing to work visiting keeper Gareth I Williams from the many chances that fell their way.

To add to Welling manager Jamie Day's woes, another poor home crowd - of just 841, more than 400 down on the corresponding fixture last season - could mean further budget cuts in the second half of the season.

Welling started brightly and created seven good opportunities in the opening half-hour. But Tony Finn and Andy Pugh both missed the target twice while the closest they came was when Jack Parkinson turned Michael Deane's long free-kick against the upright and Graeme Andrews flashed the rebound across the face of the goal.

Bromley, who had been on the backfoot, scored with virtually their first attack after Luke L'Anson's corner was deflected wide for a corner. Ashley Carew's cross caused confusion in the home ranks and Ryan Dolby reacted quickest to turn the ball home.

Pugh then failed to hit the target again before Bromley added a second a minute before the break. Michael Deane twice failed to clear his lines and Carew's brilliant right-wing cross was headed in by leading scorer Warren McBean.

Loui Fazackerley worked Williams just before the hour mark but chances on goal were few and far between for Welling after the break as they switched formation with little effect.

Bromley could have added a third with substitute Marcus Cassius firing wide, although they did finish the game with 10 men when L'Anson was dismissed by referee Paul Kelly in the final minute for a second caution.

The two sides meet again at Hayes Lane on New Year's Day (3pm) but, before then, Welling travel to St Albans on Monday (3pm) and Bromley host Eastleigh (3pm).
