Welling will receive a fee of £6,500 for Charlie Sheringham, an FA tribunal ruled on Thursday.

Sheringham left Park View Road in May to join Blue Square South rivals Bishop's Stortford but the Wings were entitled to compensation as he is under 24 and was offered an improved deal to stay at the club.

Welling general manager Barry Hobbins, pictured, said: "It's difficult to make a comparison but we received a fair hearing and are happy with the outcome.

"We're pleased that it has now been heard and dealt with. Any sort of income is welcome, especially at this moment in time with the lack of fixtures."

The tribunal also decided that Welling will be entitled to a 25 per cent sell-on clause should Bishop's Stortford cash in on 21-year-old Sheringham.

Welling also dismissed rumours that other clubs were interested in signing Sheringham, who scored 28 goals in his only season at the club and also picked up the player-of-the-year award.
