The messiest of all contests has hit the headlines again with the arrival of the World Custard Pie Championships in Kent.

Flans flew and teams got plastered as 21 squads, many wearing fancy dress, hurled 2,300 pies during 50 matches in this year's event at the Kent Showground in Detling, near Maidstone.

And in a thrilling final, the kmfm team of radio presenters beat the We Don't Like Asparagus squad from Nottingham by just a single point.

  • Some of the funds raised will be shared between Demelza Hospice Care for Children at Bobbing, the Ellenor Shining Lights Children’s Hospice at Home, and the Kent and Sussex Air Ambulance.
