Visiting peacocks ruffle feathers

A PAIR of peacocks who have set up home in a residential street may be moved to stately pastures new - if only they can be caught.

Some residents of Cliveden Close, Allington, hope they can be re-homed soon before they cause any more damage to gardens.

The birds appeared about a week ago in Pauline Baker’s back garden and have been seen on and off since then, to the delight of her eight-year-old son, Cameron.

She said: “They are very large peacocks and are eating all my plants."

She added: “We phoned the police last Friday in case anyone had reported them lost. They are very beautiful and very tame, which makes us think they must have come from somewhere with visitors.”

The birds do not come from nearby Allington Castle nor from Leeds Castle. But James Ellis, head keeper at Leeds Castle’s aviary, said if the birds could be herded into a shed or caught, the castle might be willing to pick them up and put them with their other birds.
