CHARLES CLARKE: He will officially open a range of facilities

EDUCATION Secretary Charles Clarke is to unveil a £4 million university facelift in Medway.

Mr Clarke will be visiting the University of Greenwich campus at Chatham Maritime on April 1 when he will open a range of facilities, including laboratories for sports science, material science and molecular biology.

Professor Rick Trainor, the vice-chancellor, said: "This is a huge honour for the University of Greenwich at Medway and for the area as a whole. We are delighted to have this opportunity to demonstrate our activities in research, teaching and regional development to the Secretary of State.

"These are all especially important at the moment, when the future shape of the university system is high on the political agenda."

The university offers nearly 250 different courses ranging from science and engineering to business and computing.
