Emergency services search River
Medway

by Lynn Cox

A river search has been called off hours after clothes were
discovered on Sun Pier in Chatham today.

An air and river rescue mission was launched earlier today
on the River Medway.

The Medway Coastguard and the Sheerness lifeboat crew, along
with police and a chopper, searched for a person thought to be in
the water, but it was later called off until low tide.

A second search by Medway and Sheppey Coastguard proved equally
fruitless - called off around 6.30pm after more than three
hours.

A spokesman said it had been a full search of the river from
Thunderbolt Pier up to the Medway (M2) Bridge, but nothing had been
found.
