Victim serious after attack in street

Witnesses are being sought by police following an attack which has left a man in a serious condition in hospital.

Four suspects have been arrested after the incident, which took place on Friday evening at about 11.30pm in the area of Five Bells Lane, between Rochester/Chatham High Street and New Road.

A 28-year-old man, who is suffering from head injuries, is in Medway Maritime Hospital and is said to be in a serious condition.

Police say they were quick to identify and arrest four men in relation to the assault.

Det Insp Andy Pritchard who is leading the investigation said: “Our investigation into this incident is progressing well and we were able to make arrests early on. We are viewing CCTV from the area and undertaking house to house inquiries. However, we would continue to urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have any information, to contact the police.”

Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of Rochester High Street, near to Nags Head Lane and Five Bells Lane between 11.20pm and midnight. In addition, anyone who was in the Rochester/Chatham area on Friday night, who is aware that an assault took place and may have useful information, is asked to make contact

Police say they are are treating it as an isolated incident. No one else is being sought in connection with the alleged assault.
