The head of a giraffe sculpture which lopped off by vandals has been replaced thanks to a school’s efforts.

Frank Edwards’ tree figure was decapitated at his front garden in Boughton Aluph.

Now a replacement head has been provided by pupils from John Wesley Primary School in Singleton.

Teaching assistant Samantha Myring said: “The school is very much part of the community and we wanted to help.

“We made sure the new head was ready for Christmas and it has had festive decorations put on it.”

The 10 to 12ft sculpture, named Geraldine, was attacked in November.

The school has since made a replacement head made of wire frame and artificial grass, which will be used until a new one can be grown from the tree.

Geraldine took six years to make from a yew tree. It had adorned the garden for four years but 4 to 5ft if its head and neck had been sawn off.
