Van roof causes traffic tailbacks

Rush-hour traffic hold-ups were caused this morning when the glass fibre roof on a van came off while it was being driven along the Thanet Way at Whitstable.

The roof ended up in the middle of the coast-bound carriageway near Wraik Hill.

The driver reported the incident to police at about 8.20am.

At about 8.40am police were told that a Renault Clio had hit the central reservation while taking avoiding action. The woman driver was shocked but unhurt and the car was moved to the side of the road.

Police officers removed the roof from the road and spoke to the van driver.
