'Unplayable' pitch puts pay to Faversham football

FAVERSHAM TOWN'S top-of-the-table clash with Lewisham Borough at Salters Lane this Saturday is off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Vice-chairman John Webb took the decision after a Friday morning pitch inspection, declaring the pitch unplayable.

He said: "The pitch is ok down the flanks but it's in a terrible state down the middle. It's unplayable."

The game, dubbed "The Big One" in posters around the town, was expected to attract a record crowd of over 450 but will now have to be rearranged.

Webb added: "We are sorry for the disappointment but these things happen. It's just a shame because everyone has been looking forward to this game for weeks.

"Half-price tickets handed out to parents of the town's junior sides and other special offers will instead be valid for next week's game against Crockenhill."
