Two teenagers were lucky to survive this wreckage.

Police, ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to Avenue of Remembrance, Sittingbourne, at about 6.30pm on Monday after the black Peugeot 207 convertible smashed into a tree.

The 17-year-old driver managed to free himself from the vehicle but firefighters from Sittingbourne and Faversham had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof so paramedics could take the 16-year-old female passenger out on a spinal board as she was complaining of back pain.

She was taken Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life- threatening.

The road was closed to traffic from 6.45pm to 8.15pm while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

No arrests were made.
