Two die in horror crashes on Kent's roads

A 53-year-old man was killed when a lorry overturned on to a car on the M25 in Kent. It was the second fatal accident in the county in a day.

The tragedy happened between junctions five and six near Sevenoaks on the clockwise carriageway going towards Surrey.

The man who died was a passenger in a car being driven by his 55-year-old brother. He remains in hospital with serious internal injuries.

The accident, which happened at about 4pm on Thursday, involved a lorry loaded with cases of wine. It closed the road for several hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to help them piece together what happened. Traffic was diverted but jams were reported to be more than 20 miles long at times.

It was the second time in a day that traffic on the M25 in Kent had been severely disrupted. Queues up to 15 miles long built up on the M25 between Reigate and Kent during the morning rush after a lorry loaded with paper caught fire.

The other fatality happened in Hildenborough near Tonbridge when a motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a lorry. The accident happened on London Road, near the Cock Horse pub at about 10.45am on Thursday.

Officers from the Kent Police serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses of the incident and, in particular, would like to hear from the driver of a Seat Leon who was travelling towards Tonbridge at the time.

The rider, a Hildenborough man in his 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
