Two die in crashes on county's roads

KENT Police have appealed for information after two people died in separate crashes during the holiday weekend.

A man died when his car struck a tree at Hawkhurst and a girl of 12 was killed when the car in which she was a passenger overturned on the M2.

The tragedy involving the girl happened between junctions two and three of the M2 near Rochester at about 11.45pm on Friday. The Citroen car, driven by her father, was travelling on the London-bound carriageway.

The girl, from Whitstable, was also travelling with her brother, aged 15, and her 21-year-old sister. They suffered only minor injuries. The girl’s 44-year-old father received chest injuries.

In the other tragedy, a man at the wheel of a grey Nissan died when his car hit a tree and overturned shortly before 12.30pm on Saturday.

The car was travelling from Hawkhurst to Flimwell on the A268 when it swerved as it overtook a blue car and crashed. The driver, who lived locally, died at the scene.

A police spokesman said officers were keen to speak to the driver of the other vehicle who may be unaware of what had happened.
