Matthew Brightman had his friends around to watch television - and he was the star of the show.

The 14-year-old Rochester Math pupil appeared on the CBBC programme Raven in which a group of children, known as warriors, tackle five days of tasks and feats.

At various stages in the adventure, the group loses the least successful warrior, until two go through to the final week to compete for the title of Ultimate Warrior.

Matthew, of Frensham Walk, Walderslade, was granted permission by his school to go to Scotland for four weeks to film the programme back in May.

His mum Alison said: “Matthew has a mild form of autism known as Asperger’s Syndrome so I thought it was fantastic for him to take part in the programme as I think anyone with his condition benefits hugely from taking part in anything activity wise. He had a great time and he also made new friends, some of which he’s still in contact with.

“The BBC provided a tutor for the children during filming and at the weekends they were taken out.”

Raven is on CBBC at 4.05pm every Tuesday and Thursday.
