Turner Contemporary bosses are celebrating reaching a visitor landmark - nine months early!

The Margate gallery, which opened in April, is due to announce its 156,000 visitor this afternoon.

That is the target they expected for visitors through their doors in the first 12 months.

Visitor number 156,000 will be part of a champagne celebration with gallery director Victoria Pomery.

It comes after thousands queued to take a look inside Margate's Turner Contemporary as the £17 million art gallery opened on April 16.

More than 3,000 people visited in just three hours on the first Saturday.

Many turned up early to catch a glimpse of Tracey Emin, who officially opened the building.
