AN OFF-DUTY Kent Police officer, who was the father of three children, has been killed in a crash on the M2.

PC Mark Bloomfield, 39, based in North Kent, was riding a motorcycle when the tragedy happened on the coastbound carriageway of the motorway near Rochester last Friday.

A Kent Police statement said: "PC Bloomfield was a loving son, father and partner and a valued work colleague who will be sorely missed."

In a tribute Area Commander, Chief Supt Gary Beautridge, said: "PC Bloomfield was an excellent operational officer who joined Kent Police on 15 September 1997.

"He worked in Medway and North Kent policing areas during which time he has worked as a front line uniformed officer.

"In January, 2004, he transferred to North Kent where he served as the beat officer for Swanscombe and Greenhithe and more recently on the Area Tactical Team.

"He was a nationally accredited public order trainer and as such worked as a tactical advisor to senior command teams in relation to all public order operations.

"He trained officers in the techniques used to safeguard the public when faced with personal violence.

"During his career he received two certificates of merit and a multitude of good work reports. He was an officer who was well respected by his friends and colleagues and who’s mantra was to protect and serve the vulnerable, even if that meant working long hours and putting himself at risk.

"Mark will be sorely missed by us all and our wishes go out to his family at this difficult time."
