Investigations continue into a grandfather’s death in a road accident earlier this month.

Anthony Raynor, known to his friends as Tony, died from multiple injuries as he walked along the A28 Island Road near Upstreet in the early hours of Thursday, November 10.

The 50-year-old was hit by a red Ford Ka travelling from Canterbury towards Sarre at 0.20am. He died from his injuries at the QEQM Hospital in Margate around 5am and was formally identified last Thursday by his daughter Mandy Colson.

She said: “Tony was a wonderful dad of three and a loving grandfather to two children.

“In fact, I had just told him I was expecting another child, so I am so very upset that my unborn baby will never get to meet him. Dad was a fun loving man who was passionate about playing bingo. His death has left a huge hole in our lives.”

Mr Raynor, born in Middlesbrough, lived in Old Park Avenue, Canterbury before his death.

The driver of the Ka, a man in his 30s from Sheppey, and his passenger, a woman in her 30s from Thanet, were not injured in the accident.

PC Guy Ditcher, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “This happened in a rural location with no pavement or street lighting. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man, who was wearing dark clothing, walking along the road to call us, so we can piece together what happened.”
