Warm tributes have been paid to a 20-year-old man after he was killed in a crash in Strood.

Jake Johnson, pictured left, from Hoo died at the scene
after a car smashed into a wall in Brompton Farm Road. His
death has prompted an outpouring of grief both at the scene and on
websites.

Jake's family has paid tribute to a much-loved son and brother.
They said he was "a caring, loving and well-respected young man"
whose passing "has left a massive hole in
our lives."

They added: "He had so much to look forward to and lived
life to the full. He has left hundreds of good memories and no bad
ones. He was a good boy, was always respectful to everyone he met
and everyone would say how polite he was. He was a cheeky chappy
and always had a smile on his face."

Jake's parents, Wendy and John and his sister Andrea, also
thanked everyone for all the messages of support and thanked
emergency workers who attended and tried to save Jake.

Although funeral arrangements have yet to announced, Jake's
parents would like everyone attending the funeral to wear
a bit of red to honour his love of Arsenal Football Club.

School pays warm tribute to Jake

Gary Vyse, acting head of the Hundred of Hoo school also added
his tribute: "Jake was an incredibly popular student who left in
July 2008.

"Words seem inadequate to express the
sadness we feel and our deepest sympathies go out to Jake's family
and friends at this time of sorrow."

A minute's silence will be held at the school on Friday.

Jake and three young passengers were in a black
Renault Clio, pictured, when it left the road in Brompton
Farm Road at 3.40am on Sunday.

The accident happened near the junction with Hyperion Drive
as the car travelled towards Wainscott. No other cars were
involved.

Police and ambulance crews attended and
Strood firefighters had to cut the driver out of the car.

They spent 15 minutes freeing him using hydraulic cutting
equipment and he was transferred to an ambulance.

Despite efforts by paramedics he died at the scene.

Two female passengers aged 18 and 21 were taken to Medway
Maritime Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

A male passenger aged 20 was treated for minor injuries at the
scene.

The garden wall, also pictured, was completely destroyed in the
crash, which is thought to have happened in thick fog.

It has not been established what caused the crash.

A police spokesman said: "A black Renault Clio car was
travelling from the A226 towards Wainscott when it lost control and
hit a brick wall."
