Tributes flood in for 17-year-old who died of deep vein thrombosis

A teenage girl has died of deep vein thrombosis.

Tragic 17-year-old Charlotte Porter, from Allington, was a pupil at Maplesden Noakes School in Maidstone.

She passed away on Monday after being taken to Maidstone Hospital.

A Facebook site set up for the sixth-former, a former pupil of Palace Wood Primary School in Allington, has already attracted nearly 900 members.

She was a described online as a "lovely bubbly girl".

One tribute posted on Tuesday said: "Today we were called in to assembly and told what had happened.

"I had never seen my teachers cry but today I did.

"Everyone has been so sad all day, I have never heard so many good things said about one person. She must have been really loved."

On Thursday, the last day of school before Easter, Charlotte’s fellow pupils wore either red, her favourite colour, or dressed in flowery, upbeat colours to mark her life.

Head teacher Jane Prideaux said: "All the staff and governors of the school are thinking of Charlotte’s family at what is a difficult time.

"She was a lovely girl, very bubbly and very well thought of. She made an amazing contribution to school life through her art, photography and cheer leading.

"She will be very sadly missed."

Maplesden Noakes pupils are also planning a tribute to Charlotte at the school and ideas are due to be discussed after the Easter holidays.

One idea is to create a wall in her memory at the school, inspired by her artwork.

One of Charlotte’s close friends wrote on her Facebook tribute page: "Porter - you made me laugh so much. Always happy. I really miss you."

Coroner's Officer Rick Watkins-Pitchford confirmed Charlotte died of natural causes.
