A new hair style and a free lunch are among the treats on offer for volunteers of Thanet District Citizens' Advice Bureau.

This week is Volunteers Week and the CAB is using the opportunity to thank its volunteers for the work they do.

Local businesses near the Margate-based bureau have shown their support for the organisation over the past 12 months in a number of ways.

Revitalise has donated a free treatment, hair salon Mark Andrew is donating a free cut and finish, The Flower Lab is giving a bunch of flowers, Café G is providing lunch for two, as is Newbys Wine Bar, Paydens Chemist has donated a toiletry set and Michael’s Valet has donated a gift voucher for cleaning.

Bernadette Whitlock, district manager of Thanet District CAB said: “We are very grateful to these businesses for supporting our volunteers. People underestimate what volunteers at CAB do.

“We not only solve problems on a day to day basis, we also prevent people from becoming homeless, help people out of debt and campaign for people to get better benefits.

“We use evidence from clients to lobby government on a national level to change problems. Without our volunteers, there would be no service.

“In Thanet we have 36 volunteers which include trustees, advisers and admin support. We always need more volunteers in order to increase our service.

“At present we are looking for additional advisers to join our next training course starting in September.”
