Commuter trains were delayed this morning after a body was found on the line at Rainham.

Services between Rainham and Newington were affected, but all lines have now reponed.

A statement by Southeastern this morning said: "Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised at short notice.

"An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed."

Replacement buses have been put in place both ways between Gillingham and Faversham.

A British Transport Police spokesman said officers were called to the line near Gillingham rail station amid reports of a man being struck by a train.

Paramedics attended, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The statemend added: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.

“A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 9.40am.
