Tragic burns victim named

A MAN who burned to death in a field in Gillingham earlier this month has been named as 36-year-old David Martin.

The tragedy happened on Wednesday, January 7, at the Queen Elizabeth Field at the corner of Castlemaine Avenue and Grange Road.

Mr Martin, from Gillingham, was thought to have been burned by a flammable liquid. One member of the public had tried to roll him on the ground to douse the flames but couldn't get near enough because of the intensity of the fire.

An inquest is being held into the tragedy. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Insp Andy Rabey or Det Sgt Maxine Martin of Medway police on 01634 827055.
