Tragedy after six year old boy crushed by digger

A six-year-old boy is reported to have died after his father accidently drove over him in a digger.

The child was playing on his family's farm in High Halstow, Hoo, when the tragedy unfolded.

Police have confirmed they were called to the home of farm labourer Bob Eastwood in Ropers Green Lane at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Paramedics rushed the boy, known as Bobby, to hospital but medics were unable to save him.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Local councillor Phil Filmer, said: "I spoke to the grandad when he came back from the hospital on Thursday morning. He was obviously very upset.

"People here are saddened by what has happened. The family have lived in the area for years.

"It's very sad - you can't really put into words what they must be going through."

An inquest has been opened and adjourned.
