Tonbridge AC's Steve Fennell is crowned 800m champion at English Senior Championships at Bedford

Steve Fennell of Tonbridge AC was crowned national 800m champion at the English Senior Championships.

Fennell (pictured) finished in 1.49.87 at Bedford at the weekend to claim the crown with Tonbridge teammate Andrew Combs finishing second in the 5,000m in 14.29.19.

Montell Douglas of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers took the silver medal in the women’s 100m in 11.39 seconds while teammate Shaunaugh Brown added a bronze in the discus (51.57).

Kirsty Herbert of Medway & Maidstone was fifth in the javelin with 46.39 metres while Andre Wright of M&M improved his 100m personal best to 10.58 seconds in the semi-finals but did not qualify for the final.

Wright bounced-back to set another lifetime best of 21.63 seconds as he took fifth in the 200m final.

Former Medway athlete Ed Harrison was fourth in the 400m hurdles (51.76) representing B&B and Shavaun Henry of B&B was fourth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase (11.04.20).

In the field there were fourth places for Grace Clements of Dartford Harriers in the high jump (1.69) and shot (12.90) and Darren March of M&M was fifth in the triple jump (14.81).
