Thug who hijacked woman's car revealed

This is the first picture of Adam Savage who terrified a Medway woman by hijacking her car as she drove to work.

Diane Roper was stationary at traffic lights by Bowaters roundabout in Gillingham when banned driver Adam Savage opened the passenger door and threatened he had a knife.

The victim was ordered out of her Mercedes and Savage drove off. He crashed soon afterwards, writing off the £15,000 car.

Now, 24-year-old Savage, of Institute Road, Chatham, has been jailed for 18 months after admitting robbery, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that the sales assistant at Hempstead Valley shopping centre was driving to work about 4.30am on October 24 when she stopped at the lights.

Jo Cope, prosecuting, said Savage jumped into the Mercedes and threatened to stab the victim if she did not get out. She did not see a knife but did as he said.

Savage drove off towards the M2 and crashed into a barrier at the Lord Lees roundabout at the top of Blue Bell Hill.

Miss Cope said Savage had been banned from driving until February next year. He was disqualified for a further 18 months.

Richard Travers, defending, said Savage went off the rails after a relationship ended.

“He doesn’t really understand why he did what he did,” said Mr Travers. “He was looking for somewhere to sleep. The woman pulled up at the traffic lights and he just happened to be there."

Judge Michael Lawson QC told Savage: “You terrified this woman. It has changed her life entirely.”
