Three men have been charged following a drugs raid at Sheppey's high security prison.

Christopher Hill, 21, of Anne Boleyn Close, Eastchurch, who is an operational support grade for the Prison Service, Richard Hill, also 21, an asbestos remover of Unity Street, Sheerness, and Tyrone Woolley, 27, of HMP Swaleside, appeared at Maidstone Magistrates Court on Thursday.

All are charged with conspiracy to supply controlled drugs and mobile telephones and have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Friday, June 13.

Officers from Kent Police’s specialist operations team swooped on Swaleside prison in Brabazon Road in the early hours of Tuesday.

They arrested four people, both at the prison and at residential addresses.

A fourth man has been bailed while further inquiries are carried out.
