Who has been in court in Kent recently?

Here's what has been going on in Kent's magistrates courts.

Among the criminals featured this week are vandals smashing windows, drink drivers and fraudsters.


Community service for Strood woman

Celal Ofori, of Kitchener Road, Strood, assaulted a man and a woman in London Road, Swanley.

Magistrates ordered the 43-year-old to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £620 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Driver in trouble after duping finance company

Jamie Holden, of Hever Road, West Kingsdown, made a false representation to a finance company and fraudulently purchased a BMW vehicle worth £5,950, intending to cause a loss to the company.

Magistrates ordered the 48-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Man carrying knives avoids jail

Jonathan Ingham, of Cranbrook Road, Tenterden, had a kitchen knife, a hatchet and two lock knives in Poyntell Road, Staplehurst.

Magistrates sentenced the 55-year-old to 42 days in prison, suspended for 12 months. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Maidstone resident used someone else's credit card

Robert Davey Jackson, of Church Street, Maidstone, used a credit card in someone else’s name to make a gain of money for himself.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 28 days in prison. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Strood motorist caught over the limit

Luke John Robert Hoare, of Grange Road, Strood, drove a Ford Fiesta in Rochester Road, Aylesford, and gave a breath test of 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 25-year-old from driving for 24 months and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Curfew and unpaid work for driver with no insurance

James Shiels, of Stanley Close, Greenhithe, drove a Renault Megane in Seabrook Road, Folkestone, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates banned the 31-year-old from driving for six months, ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months and gave him a three month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily. The curfew runs until 29 August 2017. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Woman sentenced for string of offences

Samantha Ramsden, of Cross Lane, Faversham, drove a Mercedes A140 in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury, with no insurance.

She also drove a Mercedes A140 in Cheriton Road, Folkestone, with no insurance and made off without paying for fuel worth £60.01 from a service station in Cheriton Road, made off without paying for fuel worth £49.71 from a service station in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury, the day after and stole five bottles of vodka, a bottle of baileys and cheese worth £102.72 and assaulted a police officer at a shop in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury, on a separate occasion.

As well as this she drove a Mercedes A140 in Ashford Road, Maidstone, with no insurance.

Magistrates ordered the 31-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months, banned her from driving for 12 months and gave her a two month curfew to remain at an address in Barnfield Road, Faversham, between 7pm and 7am daily. The curfew runs until 29 July 2017. She must also pay a £550 fine, £115 compensation and £85 costs.

Ramsgate motorist banned and hit with fine

Iulian Oancea, of Plains of Waterloo, Ramsgate, drove a Vauxhall Astra in Northdown Road, Margate, with no insurance, and gave a breath test of 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micorgrammes.

He also drove a Ford Mondeo in Hardres Street, Ramsgate, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance.

Magistrates banned the 24-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £570 fine, £170 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Man failed to hand over breath specimen

Steven Michael Lintott, of Victoria Avenue, Westgate-on-Sea, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Margate.

Magistrates sentenced the 50-year-old to 84 days in prison, suspended for two years, and banned him from driving for 60 months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Window smasher given prison warning

Jack Petts, of Middlemead, Folkestone, used unlawful violence, assaulted a man causing actual bodily harm and caused £40 of damage to two windows at a pub in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced the 20-year-old to 44 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and gave him a 12 month curfew to remain at an address in Martello Road, Folkestone, between 9pm and 6am daily. The curfew runs until 30 May 2018. He must also pay £1,040 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Wye driver was over the limit

Martin David Selman, of Church Street, Wye, drove a Mercedes C180 in Harville Road, Wye, and gave a breath test pf 105 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 35-year-old from driving for 25 months and ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Another drink driver

John Mathers, of Wood Avenue, Folkestone, drove a Suzuki motorcycle in Wood Avenue, and gave a breath test of 117 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 42-year-old from driving for 28 months and ordered him to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Folkestone resident drove without due care and attention

Christopher Michael Gillham, of Charlotte Street, Folkestone, drove a Vauxhall Corsa without due care and attention and assaulted a man in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone.

Magistrates ordered the 24-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £50 compensation, £620 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Strood man sent to jail for a month

Ryan Scott Heathcote, of Darnley Road, Strood, failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

He also stole champagne, steak and groceries worth an unknown amount from a service station in Holborough Road, Snodland, steak worth £20 from a shop in Darnley Road and pizza, cakes and eight bottles of champagne worth £320 from the same service station in Snodland.

He also stole washing powder and beef roasting joints worth £80 from a supermarket in High Street, Strood, nappies worth £4.99 from the same supermarket and joints of meat worth £33.34 and used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at a shop in Wainscott Road, Rochester.

Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old to 30 days in prison.

Drink driver disqualified

Ionut Turcanu, of Hampshire Drive, Maidstone, drove a Peugeot 407 in City Way, Rochester, and gave a breath test of 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 33-year-old from driving for 20 months. He must also pay a £110 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Gillingham thug sent to prison

Michael Friend, of Balmoral Road, Gillingham, used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards two men and a woman at a car park in Duncan Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 50-year-old to six months in prison. He must also pay £620 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Ban for drink driver

Dean Woodward, of Farview Drive, Higham, drove a Ford Transit on the A2, Gravesend, and gave a breath test of 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 48-year-old from driving for 20 months and ordered him to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Gravesend resident damaged police cell

Christopher Gavin Walker, of Roehampton Close, Gravesend, damaged a police cell and assaulted a police officer at North Kent Police Station, he also behaved in a violent manner at North Kent Police Station, attempted to damage a window at an address in Beresford Road, Gravesend, and assaulted a police officer at North Kent Police Station.

Magistrates sentenced the 32-year-old to 88 days in prison. He must also pay £280 compensation, a £50 fine, £170 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Curfew for Medway thug

Tre Mason, of Yarrow Road, Chatham, assaulted a man in Yarrow Road. He also assaulted a police officer and used racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards another police officer at a hospital in Windmill Road, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 21-year-old to 28 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, and gave him a one month curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 5.30am daily. The curfew runs until 29 June 2017. He must also pay £300 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Rochester motorist banned

Dan Mills, of Hollywood Lane, Rochester, drove a Vauxhall Astra in Hollywood Lane and gave a breath test of 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 23-year-old from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £340 fine, £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Bag thief given two month jail term

Solly Robinson, of Fort Pitt Street, Chatham, stole a bag containing wheel nuts, glasses and a wallet containing £10 cash from a vehicle in Gerrard Avenue, Rochester.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 60 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Man caught with stolen Xbox

Clive Liam Edwards, of Medhurst Gardens, Gravesend, handled a stolen Xbox.

Magistrates sentenced the 31-year-old to 60 days in prison, suspended for two years. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Prison for perfume thief

Atiq Hamdard, of Wellington Street, Gravesend, stole a fragrance gift set worth 47 from a shop in Greenhithe and he also failed to surrender to bail at Medway Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced the 25-year-old to 28 days in prison. He must also pay a £50 fine, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
