DETECTIVES investigating a murder in Scunthorpe say a man they want to trace may be heading for Kent.

Ako Jabar Abdullah, 34, died following an incident in Digby Street, Scunthorpe, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Humberside Police say they urgently need to trace Dlear Ali Mohammed, 28, who they suspect was involved in a large disturbance in the street.

Mr Mohammed was living in Digby Street. His address has been searched but as yet he has not been located.

"It is believed he has left the local area and may have travelled to Sheffield or headed south towards Dover," said Det Ch Insp Simon Walker, who is leading the enquiry.

“Due to the serious nature of this investigation and the suspicion that Dlear Ali Mohammed may have been involved in assaulting Mr Abdullah, he has to be considered a potentially violent man and he should not be approached by members of the public.

“Anyone who has information about Mohammed’s recent whereabouts are asked to must contact Humberside Police immediately.”

Nine men currently remain in police custody at Scunthorpe Police Station, having been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Anyone who has information which might assist is asked to contact the Scunthorpe Major Incident Room on 01724 282844.
